New Article: NES Games with Atmosphere

I feel like the articles I write often get lost in the shuffle unless someone finds them through a search, because the “Articles” category is buried on the site’s navigation bar. Of course, I have only written one article to date, so that may also have something to do with it. I’ll have to come up with a fix for this problem eventually. For now I’ll just make a post every time I put together an article.

This particular article is titled “NES Games with Atmosphere” and is a list of NES games that have a special combination of sound and graphics (or sometimes gameplay mechanics) that give them a unique feel. I plan on adding to it every so often and am happy hear what people think about it.

Games by System is Now “Game Catalog”

Since its inception, the list of games covered on this site has been labeled “Games by System”. Looking back, I wonder what I was thinking, because the label is pretty awkward. From now on, it will be known as “Game Catalog”, which hopefully makes more sense. I also hope that visitors like this change, so let me know if it doesn’t work.

On a side note, I have been hard at work expanding the NES section with cheats, so check out the “Game Catalog” if you’re looking for new NES content.

Plans for 2023

The coming year is going to bring a lot of changes for me, because I have another child on the way. I’ll be extra busy helping my wife for a good six months or so and I plan on taking it easy as far as expanding this site goes. I will still add new cheats and passwords on a weekly basis, but I am going to take a break from writing big walkthroughs.

That said, I will finish Shadow Hearts along with another guide I have been working on and hopefully get it posted by the end of December.

I’m looking forward to this break, because walkthroughs are really demanding projects and I have written quite a few of them over the years. That said, I’m going to play through a few games I wanted to cover and post their save files. I may also start on the Mega Man series for Game Boy and I will do boss guides for those games since they are less time intensive.

With any luck, I’ll get started on walkthroughs again in June. Feel free to add requests or suggestions for games that could use a brief guide, passwords, or a save file in the comment section.

Temporary Service Interruption 10/24

RetroMaggedon.com may be down for a few hours on Monday 10/24 and Tuesday 10/25. The site is moving to a new, faster server and will have some downtime when we change DNS. This should only last a few hours and will likely occur late at night or early in the morning in many time zones, so the disruption will hopefully be minimal. Additionally, there will not be a password or cheat code posted on the week of 10/23/2022 due to the site migration. I apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause.

Welcome FoxOne!

I’m happy to say this project has a new team member, FoxOne, who also happens to be my daughter. Lately she has helped out a lot with transcribing and testing the many cheats and passwords that are posted on this site every month. While this does not change a lot on the surface, it is a big help to me, since testing all this stuff can be difficult with just one person. Her assistance has also made it possible to post cheats for two games a week instead of just one, so thanks for your help FoxOne!

tankMage’s Game Queue and Social Media
