Release Date: January 1995
System: Super Nintendo
Mega Man X2 picks six months after X’s first adventure. With the defeat of Sigma, the Mavericks are on the ropes. Despite their victories, X and the Maverick Hunters soon learn that the evil reploids have rallied. Now X must confront eight new Mavericks as well as the mysterious X Hunters who hold an earth shaking secret.
As a Mega Man game, X2 allows players to battle the eight Mavericks in any order. Players will have to explore each Maverick’s lair and battle them at the end of their respective stages. Each defeated Maverick will give X a special weapon that another Maverick is weak against.
Players will also find power ups that include armor upgrades, Heart Tanks that increase X’s maximum health, and Sub Tanks that can store extra energy. The armor upgrades range from an improved X Buster that can fire two charged up shots to boots that make it possible to dash in mid-air. These upgrades are hidden in hard to reach areas and often require use of a special weapon or other upgrade to obtain.
X will also have to collect the parts of his fallen ally, Zero, which are in the possession of the X Hunters, three powerful Maverick leaders. The X Hunters appear early in the game and move from stage to stage. Players are given a limited amount of time to defeat them and must search the stage an X Hunter is hiding in carefully in order to find its lair.
