Atari 2600 Month (January 2018)

Coming January 2018!

The Atari 2600 is an icon of the gaming world, being an early example of a successful console and home to famous titles such as Pitfall! and Yar’s Revenge. So far, this project has focused on games from the mid 1980’s to the late 2000’s and it is high time we explored this iconic console. Our first round of Atari 2600 reviews will be published in early January 2018 and it’s library will be this website’s primary focus for the entire month. On a personal note, the Atari 2600 is somewhat foreign to me, having been born a year before the infamous “Video Game Crash” of 1983, I grew up with the NES and had no real inkling of the important contributions Artari made to the video game world. It wasn’t until I was about twelve that I actually had contact with an Atari, thanks to a friend who had borrowed one from his older brother. I’ve always had an interest in the past and I eagerly accepted my friend’s invitation to play it. The games were strange, primitive, and thoroughly fascinating. The Atari 2600 was like a journey into an alternate universe of flashing screens and strange buzzing sound effects that was totally alien to the both of us. With that said, I look forward to reviewing Atari games and maybe even writing a few guides where appropriate during the month of January. Untill then, have a great holiday season and a happy New Year!
