Description
Time Killers is an arcade style fighting game created by Incredible Technologies and published by Strata in 1992. It features a cast of eight playable warriors who have been transported from various time periods to do battle with one another. Each warrior has his or her own backstory and ending screen. The fighters include Rancid, a chainsaw wielding punk from the 21st century, a samurai named Musashi and a caveman named Thugg. All of the warriors have their own weapons and special moves.
Time Killers plays like many other fighting games, though the combatants use weapons rather than their bare hands. Players can either face off against the CPU to play the story mode or battle another human in versus mode. Each challenger starts with the same amount of health, which will be depleted as his or her foe lands blows. Whoever runs out of health first loses the match. Matches are timed, if the timer runs down to zero the player with the most remaining health wins.
Attacks are split into punches, kicks, and weapon swings as well as thrusts. Instead of using the more traditional style of punch, kick, and heavy attack buttons, Time Killers’ controls are tied to the four limbs of the player’s character. Pressing several buttons at once can result in a special attack. Players can also perform jumping and sliding attacks by using the joystick in conjunction with the attack buttons. Pulling back on the joystick causes the player to block.
Time Killers varies from most fighters as it allows players to instantly end a bout by using a “Death Move” that can instantly kill an opponent. Death Moves can be blocked or evaded. Players can also temporarily daze an opponent by repeatedly hitting him or her in the head. Super Death Moves, which completely dismember their victims, can be used on dazed fighters.
Time Killers requires two credits to play. Losing two fights against the same opponent will result in a Game Over where the player must insert two more coins to continue where they left off.
