Make sure you have the correct difficulty (which is provided with the password) selected before you go to the entry screen or the password will not work. We have included both a screenshot of each password and a written version for your convenience. (Passwords courtesy of Rontro)
Please not that there are no passwords available for the Dr. Wily stages. This is due to the fact that the game only allows you to continue with a password until you finish off all eight Robot Masters. After that you will have to complete the Wily stages in one go. Fortunately, the final password on this list will unlock the first Wily stage.

You have your passwords and they work just fine. But I have the entire password feature for Mega Man 2 cracked.
The first thing you are going to want to do is to choose how many Energy Tanks you want by placing a dot in Row “A” A1 = 0 tanks, A2 = 1 tank, A3 = 2 tanks, A4 = 3 tanks, A5 = 4 tanks. Next, from the list below, look at each column and select which boss you want dead or alive based on the number of energy tanks you selected.

The dot placements to the left of the boss’ name are for zero energy tanks. And nobody wants that.
Now, for example, let’s say that I want 3 Energy Tanks and Wood, Air, Quick, and Heat dead, and the others alive. I would enter the following password.
