Knuckles’ Chaotix (Sega Genesis 32X)

Developer: Sonic Team

Publisher: Sega

Release Date: March 1995

Genre: Platformer (2D)

Players: 1

System: Sega Genesis 32x (peripheral)

The evil Dr. Robotnik is after the Power Emerald of Carnival Island and it’s up to Knuckles, Espio, Mighty, Vector and Charmy to protect it. Robotnik and Metal Sonic attempt to thwart Knuckles by capturing his friends in machines known as Combi Confiners. Knuckles sets out alone to rescue his friends and defeat the evil Doctor.

Players start Knuckles’ Chaotix controlling only one character, but will quickly unlock a friend to accompany them on their journey and help with tasks such as hitting switches. Chaotix uses a mechanic called “Ring Power” that tethers the two characters together and allows for rubber band physics. As in most side scrolling platformers, players must run, jump, and fight their way to the end of each level. Each character in Knuckles’ Chaotix has his/her own special powers. For example, Charmy the Bee can fly, Mighty can spring off of walls, and knuckles can scale walls. Player must find their way through five acts and defeat several bosses in order to beat Knuckles’ Chaotix.
