Description
Final Fantasy I & II: Dawn of Souls is a GBA remake of the first two Final Fantasy games, which originally appeared on the Famicom (NES). Both titles are turn based RPGs that have been modernized with bug fixes, enhanced graphics/sound, updated user interfaces, and extra dungeons.
In Final Fantasy I players control the Light Warriors, four mysterious heroes who arrive in Cornelia Kingdom with magical crystals. Their mission is to defeat the elemental fiends who have ravaged the world and restore power to the crystals. Players can choose the class of all four characters and name them as they please. Each class has its own merits. Fighters are good with weapons and can take a lot of damage before falling. Thieves are quick and get a lot of critical hits. Monks are masters of unarmed combat. The White and Black Mages use healing and offensive magic respectively, while the Red Mage can use a little bit of both types of magic. Over the course of the game players will conquer dungeons, visit towns, and battle the four Fiends of the Elements to solve the mystery behind the crystals.
In Final Fantasy II players control three friends who have escaped from their home city of Fynn, which was destroyed by the Empire of Palamecia. The three youths join the remnants of Fynn’s army and swear to fight the empire. FF2 uses a natural leveling system where characters gain stat bonuses in increments based on what skills they use in combat. Swing an ax and you will gain strength, cast spells to gain spirit or intelligence, and get hit by enemies to increase your hero’s HP. Players are largely free to choose what weapons and magic the party uses, which gives the game a high degree of customization. Firion, Maria, and Guy will have to explore dungeons and battle the empire’s forces as they try to restore peace to the world.
