Description
Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is a single player “Metroidvania” style platformer where players control a Shardbinder named Miriam who can absorb the power of demons using a crystal embedded in her flesh. Set near the end of the 18th century, Bloodstained focuses on a rogue Shardbinder, Gebel, who has summoned a demonic castle using an ancient magical book. Miriam takes it upon herself to investigate the evil castle with the help of her friends.
As Miriam, players can absorb the powers of monsters and equip them in various skill slots. There are hundreds of powers that range from projectiles to passive attribute bonuses. Shards absorbed from demons can be augmented by using items to boost their effects. Miriam will also find dozens of weapons that range from great swords to guns as well as armor.
The castle is a complex maze that players must explore using skills acquired from bosses along with their wits. At first, Miriam will only be able to access a tiny part of the castle, but she will eventually unlock new areas by gaining powers like the ability to bounce through tiny passages as a ray of light.
Bloodstained features a variety of quests Miriam can complete for survivors from the village near the castle. These quests range from slaying certain demons to cooking food using the crafting system, which also allows players to create weapons and armor. Players can play as alternate characters from the Bloodstained series. Completing the game will unlock bonuses like Hard difficulty among other things.
