Description

AshGuine: Densetsu no Seisenshi (AshGuine: Legendary Warrior) is an Action RPG for the MSX2 that was released exclusively in Japan. The story takes place on a fictional planet known as Nepenthus. The world was peaceful until Banutracus and his Gooligan army invaded and laid waste to it. Two of Nepenthus’ people attempted to restore order to the world, but Banutracus had them slain upon learning of their efforts.

Players control Lyle (AKA Ryle/Ashguine) whose parents were killed by Banutracus. He sets out on a mission of revenge to defeat Banutracus and the Gooligans. In order to succeed, Lyle must first collect the holy relics of an ancient hero know as Ashguine.

The holy weapons of Ashguine are scattered around the world, so players must search for them. Lyle becomes stronger and more able to defeat the minions of Banutracus with each relic he collects. He also has RPG style stats. Defeating an enemy will raise his Power, Life, Experience, or Defense. Enemies may drain one of Lyle’s stats in addition to his Life if they hit him. Stats are important, because many of the relics cannot be obtained until the player has reached predetermined stat goals.

Lyle can jump and there is some light platforming in addition to combat and exploration. Players can use melee attacks and will eventually gain ranged attacks after finding the sword. Lyle has limited life and the game completely ends if his health reaches zero. There is no save or continue feature, so players must start over from the very beginning if they die.
