Description

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence is a prequel which kicks off the series by telling the tale of Leon Belmont, first of the great vampire hunters. Leon and his friend, Mathias, are famous knights who fight alongside one another in a long war. Mathias learns of his betrothed’s death and returns home, while Leon remains on the front. Eventually, Leon’s own love interest is kidnapped by a vampire. Renouncing his knightly rank, Leon sets out to slay the vampire and rescue his girlfriend. He soon meets and old man named Rinaldo who gives him a magical whip and aids him in penetrating the secrets of the vampire’s castle.

Unlike classic Castlevania titles, Lament of Innocence is a fully 3D game where players control Leon as he explores Walter’s castle. Leon can attack with the whip, use heart weapons like the ax, and activate special relics to gain magical powers. Players will also unlock new whip techniques as they defeat enemies and explore. Leon can increase his maximum health, magic, and hearts by collecting power ups hidden around the castle. To battle the final boss, Leon must defeat five lesser bosses and collect their magical orbs. Not only do orbs open the way to the final boss, they also augment the powers of heart weapons, granting them different properties.

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence features extra gameplay modes in addition to the base game. Players can unlock a hidden character, a boss rush, and a higher difficulty mode by completing the game. There is also a secret boss players can challenge near the end of the game. Progress can be recorded in special save rooms scattered around the castle.
