The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion places players in control of an individual that is imprisoned in the Imperial dungeon for unknown reasons. Everything changes when the Emperor, Uriel Septim VII, and his personal bodyguards approach the player’s cell. The player soon learns that assassins are after the Emperor and his only means of escape is through a secret passage in the cell. As events unfold, the player becomes entangled in a much deeper plot that will determine the fate of Tamriel.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion features an open world where players can embark upon various quests or explore freely. Character creation is also flexible, allowing players to choose from several pre-made classes or create their own custom class. All classes feature seven skills that translate into actions that can be performed in-game. For example, the Blade skill determines how well a character uses a sword, while Destruction impacts a character’s effectiveness with offensive magic. Players are also free to use any skills that are not included in their class. Improving any combination of ten skills in the player’s class will result in the character gaining a level.

This game offers various types of weapons that range from bows to battleaxes as well as a variety of armors. Players can also specialize in thievery by learning to pick locks and sneak around or master magic as a mage. In addition to all of the class options, players can select one of several fictional races, each of which has its own unique traits.

Finally, this game features a broad array of quest lines in addition to its main story. A player can become a famous warrior in the Fighter’s Guild, compete in the Arena, join a shadowy group of assassins, or learn magic in the Mages Guild. Quests that are not tied to major storylines are also available. All quests, both small and large, offer players a variety of rewards that can include gold, special equipment, and even new powers.
