Description
R-Type Command is a turn based Tactical RPG spin-off of the famous R-Type space shooter series. Its story centers around a commander who has been placed in charge of a desperate fleet of Space Corp pilots tasked with freeing the Solar System from alien invaders known as the Bydo. Their mission will not be easy as the Earth is running low on resources and the Space Corps can spare little in the way of equipment.
Players are given a turns in which they can move their ships around on a hex based map and attack enemies. Every ship has its own movement range and weapons, which can only be used if a valid target is within range. Units vary from single vessels with their own HP scores to squads of fighters that come in groups of five. Fans of the series will recognize famous vessels like the Arrowhead, Power Armor, and Strider. Larger ships that can carry and repair smaller craft have also been included in the game.
The game is split into missions which take place on specific maps and have their own goals. Mission objectives usually consist of destroying the enemy flagship, but some missions require the player to teach a certain portion of the map or perform some other task. Players can repeat missions as often as they like in order to search for new technologies or mine materials used to build new space ships using specialized vessels. Each mission must be completed within a set amount of turns or the player will automatically fail.
Players can also face-off against other players online in network mode. In online battles, players can choose to control Space Corps or Bydo ships and battle one another in a variety of maps. This game also features a save system that allows players to continue where they left off, even in the middle of a mission.
