Release Date: September 19, 2005
System: PlayStation 2
Genre: Beat ‘em Up/Fighting
Players: 1-2
Description
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks takes place just after the first Mortal Kombat. Players control Liu Kang and/or Kung Lao as they brawl their way through Shang Tsung’s secret fortress. This title varies from its predecessors as it is a beat ‘em up rather than a tournament style fighting game. The heroes are free to move around and explore Shang Tsung’s fortress as well as other locations in the game. Servants of Shang Tsung (and later Shao Kahn) attack players at every turn. These foes range from Oni to powerful bosses like Goro and Baraka.
Liu Kang and Kung Lao can perform combos, use their special moves, and finish enemies off with Fatalities just like in any other Mortal Kombat game. Players will also find weapons that include anything from rocks to deadly swords as they explore. Even the terrain can become a weapon as enemies can be thrown onto spikes or knocked into pits. Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks features both a Single Player Mode and Two Player “Ko-Op” where friends can team up to defeat the forces of the Outworld.
