Description
In Monster Hunter Freedom, players create a character then enter the village where they can complete a variety of missions. Such missions include simple tasks like gathering mushrooms in the Forest and Hills area, to hunting huge wyverns in a dangerous Volcano. While on a mission, players can explore an area freely and find resources which can be used to make medicine as well as many other useful items. Weapons and armor can be crafted from gathered resources as well as materials taken from slain monsters. Creating and upgrading equipment plays a significant role as players will need powerful gear in order to progress.
The player’s chosen weapon will affect gameplay greatly. For example, the great sword is powerful, but swings slowly, while the dual swords sacrifice heavy single hit damage for speed. Players can also use lances, huge hammers, and the nimble sword and shield. Those who prefer to fight from a distance can do so with bowguns, which consume different kinds of ammunition which includes piercing shot and explosive rounds.
Those who wish to fight alongside friends can do so using the Guild Hall and the PSP’s online connectivity feature. Multi-player quests are more difficult, often requiring players to gather larger amounts of resources or defeat more powerful monsters in order to complete missions. Games can be saved on the PSP’s memory stick and resumed later on.
