Description

Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters takes place between Mega Man 7 and 8. Dr. Light has discovered a mysterious energy source and has begun work on a new device. Meanwhile, Dr. Wily has revived many of the Robot Masters from previous games and Roll has vanished. Mega Man, Proto Man, and Bass team up once again to do battle with Wily’s forces in hopes of saving Roll and recovering Dr. Light’s missing device. Duo, a new character, joins the trio in the battle with Wily.

Players can choose from Mega Man, Proto Man, Bass, and Duo at the start of each game. Once they have chosen a hero, the player must choose a story where they are tasked with defeating Wily’s Robot Masters, rescuing Roll, or recovering the stolen component. There are six Robot Masters from other Mega Man games in each story as well as two final bosses. Instead of running through a stage to fight a Robot Master, players battle each boss in fighting game style matches. Victorious players will earn a special weapon, which must be picked up at the end of the battle, from each Robot Master. Special weapons often do more damage against certain enemies, but can only be used a limited number of times in each fight. Once all the Robot Masters have been defeated, the player has to fight a penultimate boss before facing off against Dr. Wily.

All of the heroes can charge up their standard weapons to fire off an extra powerful shot, jump, and perform various dash maneuvers. They can also unleash a powerful choose range attacks by charging their weapon, then pressing up while firing it. The heroes take damage when hit by enemies, but they can collect extra life at the end of each battle or if the boss drops it when damaged. Players may also receive help from Dr. Light in the form of Rush, Beat, or Bass’s wolf Treble when badly damaged. It’s game over if the player’s hero runs out of energy, but continues can be purchased with 2 coins.
