Legend of the Mystical Ninja is a humorous action/adventure game that takes place in a comic version of ancient Japan that’s rife with mythical creatures, bandits, and a variety of whacky NPCs. This adventure stars Kid Yin and Dr. Yang, who set out to investigate a mysterious ghost woman that has been haunting their village. Upon defeating the ghost, the duo learns of a much larger plot that only they can solve.

Players control Kid Ying by default, but can choose Dr. Yang in two player mode. The object is to defeat the boss of each stage. To do so, players must explore nine areas while collecting money and powerups that will be useful on their quest. As with most games of this nature, players will lose energy when they are touched by an enemy or projectile and die when they run out of energy. After dying, they lose some of their powerups and start where they were defeated.

Dr. Yang and Kid Ying have their own unique weapons and powers. Weapons can be upgraded to get more reach by collecting special items dropped by foes and both characters learn powerful magic called Jutsu. These Jutsu range from a tiger that Kid Ying can ride to Dr. Yang’s Dance of Death, which clears the screen of enemies. Scrolls dropped by bad guys are required to use Jutsu.

This game also features a story told through cutscenes as well as shops that sell helpful items and even gambling halls. Money can also be used to unlock all sorts of secrets. Players can continue at the start of any stage by entering a password.
