Description

Final Fantasy VI was released in North America on 1994 as Final Fantasy III. Its story revolves around a war waged by the Empire against the nations of an unnamed fantasy world. The Empire has had much success in conquering the territory surrounding it thanks to the rediscovery of magic, which allowed the Empire to fuse the mystical force with modern technology. Players start out controlling a mysterious young woman and a pair of Magitek Armor riding soldiers as they raid the town of Narshe. As the story progresses, the player will meet and recruit a variety of heroes whose actions will determine the fate of the world.

Final Fantasy III is a turn based RPG where players explore towns and dungeons that are linked together by an overworld map. Random battles that take place on a separate combat screen often occur on the overworld and in dungeons, though some towns feature random encounters with monsters. During combat, players issue commands to up to four characters as they fight monsters. Win a battle and you will be rewarded with money, items, and experience points that allow characters to become stronger by leveling up.

In dungeons, players will have to navigate mazes and occasionally solve simple puzzles to progress. Dungeons are often filled with treasure chests that contain weapons and items. Most dungeons are home to an extra powerful boss monster.

Towns feature shops that sell weapons, armor, and items as well as friendly NPCs who will give the player clues. Players will also find inns where they can rest their party to refill their HP/MP along with a variety of surprises.

Players can recruit a total of fourteen playable characters. Every character has a specialty like the ability to learn spells from enemies and steal items to name just a few. While only a couple of characters can use magic in the beginning of the game, nearly every playable character will be able to learn spells after a certain point in the story. Spells must be learned by equipping special items called Magicite and gaining Magic Exp in combat. Magicite can increase certain statistics if a character has it equipped when he or she levels up.

Final Fantasy III is about forty to seventy hours in length depending on how much the player chooses to explore the game. A built in save system allows players to record their progress on the overworld map and in save points in most dungeons. Save points also allow players to heal the party with sleeping bags or tents.
