Description
Astyanax is an action platformer where players must navigate six stages packed with monsters and hazards in search of Princess Rosebud. Astyanax, the hero of the game, is a teenager haunted by dreams about the princess. One day, a fairy tells the hero that his dreams are reality and that Princess Rosebud needs his help. The fairy warps Astyanax to Remlia where he must defeat the hordes of the evil Blackthorn to save the princess.
Players are given three magic spells, an ax, some health, and a limited number of lives to complete the game. The ax starts out weak, but can be powered up using items found in statues hidden around each level. How much damage the ax inflicts is also determined by a power meter at the bottom of the screen. Swing the ax while the meter is full and Astyanax will do maximum damage. Swing the ax while the meter is nearly empty and the hero will do little damage. Waiting a second will give the meter enough time to fully charge.
Several spells that include lighting, fireballs, and ice are available in Astyanax. These spells inflict varying amounts of damage, but can be relied on to clear the screen of monsters. They are also very effective against the bosses found at the end of each stage.
