Description
300: March to Glory is based on the 1998 comic and 2007 film, 300. It follows the exploits of Leonidas and 300 Spartan warriors as they fight off an invasion lead by Xerxes, the emperor of Persia. The game depicts events from the film in cutscenes narrated by David Wenham, who played Dillios in the film, and through its action sequences.
Players control Leonidas throughout much of the game and have to complete various tasks, which usually involve defeating certain enemies or protecting an ally. Leonidas starts out with a sword, spear, and shield. Dual swords can be unlocked later in the game. The player can throw Leonidas’s spear and shield, but will have to pick them back up in order to use them again. Leonidas can upgrade his equipment and purchase new abilities using Kleos earned from defeating enemies.
Leonidas can use Battle Skills after accumulating Wrath by attacking his foes. These battle skills can heal him, increase his damage, and defend him from arrows. Kleos can be used to further improve a Battle Skill, making it more effective. Combo attacks that stun enemies, deal extra damage, or knock targets down can also be bought with Kleos.
The player has a finite amount of life, which is shown on a meter in the upper left hand corner of the screen. If Leonidas is struck by a foe, his life meter will decrease by a set amount. Leonidas will perish if he runs out of life entirely and the player will have to restart from the last checkpoint they passed. Players can refill his health by collecting Lambda signs that sometimes appear on the map or by using certain Battle Skills.
300: March to Glory also features Phalanx Mode, where Leonidas and several Spartans fight in ranked combat against the Persians. A Command Bar acts as the Spartans’ health meter when in Phalanx Mode. The bar depletes as time passes and when the phalanx suffers damage, but slaying enemies refills it. It’s game over when the Command Bar hits zero.
Leonidas will also have to face off against several bosses, many of which were created specifically for the game. March to Glory uses the PlayStation Portable’s memory stick to save automatically at checkpoints.
