Description
Based on the anime, Inuyasha, Secret of the Divine Jewels offers players an original side story set in the same universe as the show. Janis, an American exchange student studying in Japan, befriends Kagome at the start of the game. One day, she follows Kagome to the Bone Eater’s Well and finds herself transported to to the Japanese Feudal Era. Janis soon learns that that she possesses a mysterious power that she can use to slay demons. Now, Kogame, Inuyasha, and a host of other characters from the anime must help Janis solve the riddle of her past.
In Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel, players control Janis as she explores Feudal Japan and battles demons. Janis can use a variety of spells which include healing and destructive magic. In addition to using magic, she will be able to fight using a weapon after completing a quest early in the game.
Several popular characters from the anime, including Inuyasha, Kagome, Shippo, and Miroku as well as several other temporary party members accompany Janis throughout her adventure. Every hero has his or her own powers which are modeled after those in the show. Most powers are used in combat to defeat demons, but a few can be used in or out of battle to aid party members.
Battles are often random and use a turn based system, so demons and heroes take turns acting according to their agility scores. Using skills, spells, and even basic attacks consumes energy. Characters who are out of energy are limited to defending, using items, or replenishing their energy for a turn. Characters also naturally regenerate energy when their turn comes up and while walking around outside of combat. How much energy each character has varies; some heroes possess a lot of energy while others have low energy scores.
Like the vast majority of RPGs, Inuyasha is filled with towns and dungeons to explore along with several overworld maps. Players can rest to regenerate health and energy in villages where they can also buy healing items from merchants. Some merchants can use components found in various places to create amulets which protect against status ailments and boost stats.
Inuyasha: Secret of the Divine Jewel uses a Lunar Cycle System that affects Inuyasha’s powers. The Moon also determines the availability of certain items as well as the occurrence of some events.
Players can save their game while on the overworld map.
