Abagail Craven has learned about the Addams’ hidden fortune and has kidnapped Morticia, Wednesday, Pugsley, Fester and Granny in hopes of finding out its secret location in The Addams Family. Gomez, who wasn’t captured, returns home to find his family missing and learns that they are hidden in different parts of the mansion. He must explore the mansion in hopes of finding his missing family.
Players are free to explore the stages in any order by choosing doors located in the beginning of the game, which acts as a hub for the stages. Gomez will have to traverse obstacles by running, jumping, and ducking in each stage. These obstacles include spikes, lethal pits, and even fire. There are also a number of enemies that infest each level. Jumping on these bad guys will destroy them. Some stages are guarded by a boss that must be defeated in order for Gomez to free his family member. Players are given a limited amount of health that can be increased by grabbing powerups. There are also special powerups, like the sword, that can be found in the mansion. The Addams Family uses a password system so players can resume their game from where they left off at any time.
