Description
Naruto: Path of the Ninja is a Japanese style RPG that was ported from the Game Boy Advance to the Nintendo DS. Players primarily control Naruto, Sakura, and Sasuke as they take their genin ninja test, complete their first few missions, then take the chunin exam as they did in the animated series which this game is based on. Areas and characters from the anime, such as Hidden Leaf Village and Gaara, are featured in this video game adaptation. Many of the skills and abilities of the characters have also been replicated.
Like most RPGs, Naruto: Path of the Ninja requires players to explore towns and dungeons. As they explore, players will often find themselves in random battles where they can earn Exp to level up their heroes in order to face greater challenges. Weapons and armor can be purchased from shops or found in dungeons and other places. Characters can use a variety of weapons such as shurikens, chains, fans, and swords. Body armor that increases defense and pants that improve agility can also be equipped. Every ninja can learn different healing and attack skills, some of which are unique to specific characters.
The battle system is designed so each player character and enemy gets a turn based on their agility. When a character’s turn comes up, he or she can move, attack, use a skill, flee, defend, or use an item. A character’s position on the battle screen impacts how much damage he or she does. Attacking while close to a foe usually inflicts more damage than attacking while far away, but close enemies will hurt players in the front row more than they harm those in the back row. Some weapons are more effective when used from the front row, while others perform best from the rear row.
Players can use the touchscreen to enter commands, walk around, and enter special inputs for jutsu techniques. The player can also use the Nintendo DS D-Pad and buttons to control the game if they wish. Naruto: Path of the Ninja has a built in save system that allows players to save at any time when not in battle. Its total play time is roughly 18 to 21 hours.
