Description
Dune: The Battle for Arrakis is a real time strategy game based in the Dune universe. Players can assume command of the house Atreides, Harkonnen, or Ordos armies to vie for control of the planet Dune and its supply of Spice. Each house has its own missions and there are 27 missions in total. Players are given goals, such as harvest a preset amount of Spice or defeat an opposing army, that must be fulfilled in order to complete a mission. Of course, dangers like enemy troops and gigantic sandworms make completing goals more difficult.
Gameplay takes place on a map viewed from above. Much of this map is covered in darkness, but moving a player controlled unit into a dark area will reveal the topography of the location. Players get a variety of units to control that range from simple troopers to massive sonic tanks. Units must be purchased with credits (though some units are provided at the start of a mission) earned through collecting Spice. Players will also need to build and defend facilities that produce military units. Dune: The Battle for Arrakis uses a password system as its save feature.
