Parasite Eve is an RPG that was developed and released by SquareSoft for the PS1. Aya Brea, a New York City police officer is out on a date at the opera when the audience suddenly bursts into flames and the lead singer transforms into a bizarre monster. Somehow, Aya is spared from the inferno and she pursues the strange creature as it flees into the depths of the opera house. Things take a turn for the worse as Aya encounters mutant animals in the theater basement. Brea and the rest of the NYPD quickly learn that they have a major incident on their hands after the events at the opera house and only Aya can get to the bottom of the mystery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players control Aya exclusively throughout the game as they explore various parts of Manhattan in hopes of uncovering the truth behind the opera house incident. Combat takes place in semi-real time where the player is free to move around as the action bar charges. When the action bar is full, Aya can use her special powers, attack with a weapon, or use an item. Aya primarily uses guns, but can also melee attack with clubs or use her special \u201cParasite Power\u201d to heal herself and attack monsters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Players can also upgrade and customize their equipment. Guns, clubs, and armor can all be altered using tools found scattered around the game world. Players can move bonus stats as well as special effects from one piece of equipment to another. These effects include rate of fire, status effects (IE Sleep), and even extra actions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Parasite Eve is roughly 8 to 10 hours long. It features both a save system and a New Game+ mode that includes a bonus \u201cdungeon\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
