OMAR, a huge oil company, has hired Sid Burn and his gang called the Coyotes to destroy all competing oil producers in the US. Convoy, a heroic trucker, assembles a team of eccentric drivers with souped-up cars to counter the efforts of OMAR. In Vigilante 8<\/em>, players can control characters from both the Vigilante 8 and the Coyotes in action packed vehicular combat. Each character has his or her own vehicle with its own strengths, weaknesses, and weapons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There are several game modes that include a mission based quest mode, all out combat, and multiplayer combat, but the primary focus is vehicle vs. vehicle combat. Players must shoot other cars with their machine guns or special attack while avoiding attacks from other vehicles. Weapons that deal extra damage, like rockets and missiles, can be found in stages. Such weapons have a limited supply and have to be used carefully. Players will also find items that will repair their car as well as other powerups. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quest mode is mission based and primarily focuses on objectives other than defeating enemy vehicles, such as protecting oil wells from the Coyotes. Multiplayer allows two to four players to face off against each other in a deathmatch and arcade mode is a single player deathmatch where players battle the AI. Players only have access to some of the heroes and villains at first, but can unlock more by progressing in the game or using passwords.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
